Team Radio Shack Nissan rider Fabian Cancellara has decided to call time on cycling for the rest of the year, which means that he will not be a part of the lineup for the UCI Road World Championship later on in the year. The cyclist went under the knife for a surgery earlier in the year and it is being believed that he is yet to recover fully from that to be able to compete in the events coming up in what is remaining of the season.
And although there were speculations regarding his future with the team, the Swiss will indeed ride for Team Radio Shack Nissan next season as well. According to his manager, the contract he has with the team is good and there are no reasons for him to leave the team. Fabian Cancellara managed just four victories throughout the 2012 season and according his manager, the reason why the Swiss has been below par is because he has been struggling with his fitness after undergoing the surgery.
His manager, Armin Meier also stated that the sole reason why he lost in the time trial event at the recently concluded London Olympic Games was not because of the physical fitness but the lack of mental strength, having endured a difficult season. Meier added that the crash drained him mentally and he lost the time trial in his head. Meier is, however, hopeful that with some rest and time away from the circuit with his family and friends will be good for Cancellara and he can start off fresh next year.
Fabian Cancellara himself is still hung over by the disappointments of the Olympic Games and speaking about the Olympic Games, he stated that he had made preparations for the event for so long but added that the disappointment was too much.
