Geraint Thomas is one of the most successful and talented racing cyclist, from Welsch, riding for Team Sky.
As a world champion in track cycling and a gold medalist in Olympics as a member of Team Pursuit squad, this 26 year old track cycling professional has also won numerous titles like the Junior Paris-Roubaix in the year 2004, the British National Championships in the year 2010 and the recent Bayern-Rundfart in 2011.
He along with his fellow Team Pursuiters, was capable to retain their crowns as World Champions in Beijing 2008. They also managed the Olympic Gold thus smashing the World Record two times in the process.
Geraint Thomas was honoured as an MBE in 2009. Geraint currently wants to focus on pursuing his career on road for team Sky. In 2010, Geraint along with Team Sky won the National Road Race and performed very well in the Tour de France. Starting very early with his cycling career, he had won numerous titles including national championships. His real potential was understood after he won the silver medal at the European Championships. After becoming a member of British Cyclings Olympic Academy, he also won the Carwyn James Junior Award at BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year ceremony.
While Geraint Thomas was training in Australia, in 2005, he met with an accident when a piece of metal, by the mistake of a fellow rider, entered his body and ruptured his spleen. However after lots of internal bleeding and successive removal of the organ, he bounced back in 2006-2007, where he performed very well in Tour de France of 2010. He also came to India in 2010 for Commonwealth Games, but could not perform due to health issues. After winning lots of championships in the year 2011 and 2012, he has been able to make a place in the hearts of his followers.
