Team Sky has stated that Geraint Thomas, Michal Kwiatkowski, Luke Rowe and Ian Stannard would all ride Tour of Flanders on Sunday, as part of a multifaceted, strong line-up for Flemish monument.
Geraint has had a week free from racing before Tour of Flanders after selecting to avoid a Classics datebook in favor of a series of stage races. He became champion at the Paris-Nice this month and also rode 5 stages of Volta a Catalunya previous week. He is expecting his experience in Classics would be enough to make up for any lack of recent 1 day racing.
Christian Knees, Michal Golas, Salvatore Puccio and Gianni Moscon round out the team and would offer some important support. Team Sky would also be in action at the weekend in Spain with Mikel Landa racing on home ground at GP Miguel Indurain on Saturday and then again in Vuelta al País Vasco in the coming week, as he goes on to make his condition before Giro d’Italia.
Fellow Spanish racers Xabier Zandio and David Lopez are included in that squad for the tour to Estella with Colombian cousins Sergio and Sebastian Henao, Phil Deignan and Vasil Kiryienka. Should they come through that race unharmed, all 7 riders will line up at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco forty-eight hours later, with Lars Petter Nordhaug linking them for 6 day Basque Country race.
